Zhao Bichen’s Daughter-in-Law

Life is short, and when we are parted from loved ones there is always a pain in the heart. I have experienced this recently, and this has helped me understand how human affection gives meaning and differentiation to the various stages of life. A human life span is difficult to judge and no one knows whether we will live 30,000 days or not. It is thought that with the right kind of Daoist training, an individual could live for 100 years or more. Well, today I participated in the funeral of the daughter-in-law of Zhao Bichen (the Founder of Qianfeng Daoism). This venerable lady was my paternal grandmother and when she passed away, she was 105 years old.
We all appreciate the logic behind staying healthy in our lives, but far too often we become subsumed in the everyday dramas and experiences, and literally forget to set aside a little time for a daily regime of fitness training. Staying healthy in body and mind is a lifelong pursuit. I sincerely hope that everyone can benefit from the teachings of Qianfeng Daoism and create a life-long Daoist practice that builds vigour and strength by developing the essential nature (jing) through the refinement of vital force (qi) which flows throughout the body (including the brain). An ancient once said that there is no growth without effort (literally one minute of ploughing the land equals one minute of harvesting the crops). This means that unless you set aside time to practice on a daily basis, you will not progress in anyway. A temporary comfort in life does not prolong your lifespan, in fact such self-indulgence shortens life expectancy by diverting attention away from Daoist self-cultivation. When you are ill, the essential nature (jing) and vital force (qi) are exhausted and become scattered. This can only be remedied if you train appropriately – if you do not train then you will not create the psycho-physical conditions for robust health. At the moment I do not have a wonderful blessing to give you all. The only way you can improve your health is through self-effort that is guided by a true master. The Qianfeng Prenatal School provides you with all the knowledge and guidance you need, I advise you to take advantage of this Daoist body of knowledge and not to waste anymore time on frivolous pursuits…
