At these special times of year, our minds are drawn to the
remembrance of our ancestors. Obviously
for the Zhao family this has a further significance, as it involves the
transmission of the authentic lineage of Daoist self-cultivation. This includes Zhao family ancestors, and many
eminent Daoist masters from outside the Zhao family who passed on their special
knowledge to my great grandfather Zhao Bichen (1860-1942) as all are treated
with equal respect and honour. This is
the preservation and transmitting of the teachings and techniques of philosophical
Daoism from one generation to another, and we are eternally grateful that this
led to the development of Qianfeng Daoism, because the premise of Qianfeng
Daoism is that all are taught who request instruction. This is why we have respect for our
ancestors, as what we have now has its roots in the past.
