Qianfeng Waigong Lineage Poems

Within philosophical Daoist self-cultivation, the external qi energy refinement technique is very important for the development of robust health (in mind and body), and the propagation of long life. Internal self-cultivation is the method of allowing qi energy to flow freely and correctly around the inner body, whilst refining the essential nature (jing). Without the correct practice of external self-cultivation, internal self-cultivation cannot take place as the two distinct methods are inherently linked. I know friends who have practiced Daoist self-cultivation over the years, who do not really understand the differences between inner and outer practice, and who are confused and quite vague about what they understand external qigong to be. If you cannot understand the correct Daoist self-cultivation technique, then how can genuine virtue be generated? My great grandfather – Zhao Bichen (1860-1942) – was the 11th generation descendent of the Dragon Gate School and Founding Patriarch of the Qianfeng Prenatal School. My name is Zhao Ming Wang and I am the lineage inheritor of the Zhao Family Lineage of Qianfeng Daoism. I care very deeply about my friends who practice my family’s Daoism and I want to share the true lineage poems for correct external qigong practice that Zhao Bichen passed on to future generations. Much of this information has never been written down before. These lineage poems are the genuine and true wisdom and knowledge that explain the laws of external self-cultivation.
Lineage Poem 1.
The foundational practice is that of ‘stilling’ the mind and sitting rooted like a pine tree.
Both hands are positioned so that the qi energy flows uninterrupted
Qi energy flows downward into the lower energy refinement centre (dantian).
This path leads to the double refinement of energy in the mind and kidney areas.
Lineage Poem 2.
Correct daily training unites the metal ( passion) with wood (nature) and all is illuminated.
The mind is ‘stilled’ through one-pointed concentration and there is no coming or going.
The eyes drawn downward to look at the nose and do not wonder away from it.
The mind is supported in its concentration by the hand positions that unite qi energy flow.
Lineage Poem 3.
Draw the bow into the exact extended position without hesitation or weakness.
The intention guides the mind’s awareness and the qi energy is cultivated.
Both hands draw the bow to full extension because the mind is expansive.
The hand releases the arrow from the bow but it never leaves the awareness of the mind.
Lineage Poem 4.
Standing with the feet in horse stance is the method for ‘stilling’ the mind.
Lifting the hands to the shoulders and dropping them down cultivates qi energy.
The qi energy travels up the governing vessel and down the conception vessel.
Lift and drop the hands regularly and become as strong as a great ox.
Lineage Poem 5.
When stepping lift and drop each foot with an awareness that concentrates and ‘stills’ mind.
Moving the open palms through the air cultivates the qi energy flow.
By moving the outer body correctly the inner qi energy saturates the five inner organs.
This is how qi energy cultivation leads to good health and achieves the awareness of true reality.

These are the ancient formulas of the Qianfeng School – practice them with diligence.
