Daoist Health Building – Harmonizing Mind & Body Self-Cultivation

Recently, I watched a news story about a number of great martial artists who whilst in their 50s – rode on the back of a crane toward the West... There are also other people who keep fit by playing sports or practicing yoga, who also die young.
As this is the case, many are left wondering whether the health building and life-extending exercises of (Philosophical) Daoism really work? I will tell you the truth of the matter in a straightforward manner. If your mind and body is taken with work all the time and there is an obsession with making money or gaining promotions, you will waste all your essential and vital energies and your health will suffer as a consequence. You will have no time to ‘protect’ your health and practice the correct methods that prevent an early death. Even so-called ‘masters’ who possess certain skills and are respected in the community cannot prevent an early death.
What is authentic Daoist self-cultivation? That neither the size of your bank balance – nor how many titles you possess – will prolong your life one second longer. This is a harsh reality that you must understand and make sense of whilst living in the modern world. We all need to work and make a living, but we must do this with a purified, (still) mind which continuously radiates peace, compassion and wisdom, whilst the body (and its actions and behaviours) are purified of greed, hatred and delusion, and all energy boosted and enhanced through energy wastage being stopped and permanently blocked off. The mind must ‘smile’ and the body must be relaxed and fully energized for life to be improved and prolonged. Daoist self-cultivation must be a permanent effort in the correct direction.
Even in the realm of media and stardom – such as TV and movie actors – as well as big business leaders and the like, many of these people either have no knowledge of Daoist self-cultivation, or view Daoist thinking as somehow corrupt and irrelevant for the conditions of modern life. All everybody has to do is work on strengthening and preserving the essential nature (精 - Jing( and vital force (炁 - Qi). If they do not do this, how can they a long life?
