The thoughts and feelings of Tian Zhenzi regarding training in the Qianfeng School.
Master Zhao Ming Wang is very good as are all the other Qianfeng Daoist Disciples!
As a new year approaches, I look back on the year that has passed. In this year (2014) I have been guided by the spiritually transcendent (recorded) words and indomitable actions of the esteemed Founding Ancestor Zhao Bichen (赵避尘), the (contemporary) knowledge and wisdom of Master Zhao Ming Wang (the great grandson of Zhao Bichen) and by the support of the many other brothers and sister disciples of the Qianfeng Prenatal School. As a consequence, I have made very good progress in my training. In this way, the Daoist ‘Law’ (法 – Fa) has been successfully preserved, maintained and transmitted to ever greater numbers. This process has facilitated the practice of genuine Daoism by more and more people to the general benefit of humanity, as this benefit strengthens the body, transforms the mind and changes the condition (and destiny) of the world. On a personal level, I benefitted immeasurably from my training in the Qianfeng School and now put pen to paper at the request of Master Zhao Ming Wang as a means to record my experiences for the benefit of others.
I entered the ‘gate’ of this school a long time ago and have received the true essence of the Daoist Law from Master Zhao Ming Wang. I have a congenital weakness in my body due to a serious deficiency of ‘ancestral qi’ (祖气 – Zu Qi) energy. This issue has been complicated by my lack of diligence in my daily Daoist training. Therefore, many of the improvements I have experienced are not always been readily observable to others. However, since May Day last year, Master Zhao Ming Wang has encouraged me by placing a greater belief in my abilities, and this has led to my training being more committed and intense than usual. I thought that I could not let Master Zhao Ming Wang (or the Qianfeng disciples) down after receiving such care and attention, although I was concerned that I may not be able to live up to such expectations. After returning home, I redoubled my efforts and worked with determination to open the eight qi energy channels, light the two ‘wenwu’ (文武) fires, and intensify the ‘sweating ox’ (汗牛 – Han Niu) practice. Due to the weakness of my body, needless to say I was embarrassed every day.
Master Zhao Ming Wang advised that the qi energy in my body was too cold and heavy with wetness – in such a situation the qi energy needs to be worked very hard to overcome this sluggishness through warming the circulation and encouraging a free flowing system. After a few months of this intensified training, my health improved significantly. In the past, I often experienced a substantial loss of ‘kidney qi’ (肾气 – Shen Qi). I also suffered from nocturnal emissions. All this greatly weakened the essential nature (精 – Jing) and my spirit (神) presence and circulation in my body. This negative process made me feel depressed and lacking in any effective will-power. After Master Zhao Ming Wang transmitted the ‘sweating ox’ practice, my illnesses left my body and several months later have not returned, and my ‘jing’ and ‘shen’ have strengthened considerably and I am in a far happier mood (and positive state of health).
When Master Zhao Ming Wang stated that Qianfeng training saves people from multitudinous suffering – he was speaking the truth. I know this because Master Zhao Ming Wang took a personal interest in my situation and privately encouraged me to do better than I thought I could. The ‘sweating ox’ practice changed everything for me. The ‘martial’ (武 – Wu) self-cultivation exercise is very good. I practice this everyday followed by ‘sweating ox’ and then warming exercises. I now clearly experience heat travelling up the ‘governing vessel’ (督脉 – Du Mai), with the qi energy flow extending up and over the top of the head (and down the front of the face into the upper palate). As a consequence, the lower ‘dan tian’ (丹田) – or the lower energy centre of transformation – becomes quite naturally very hot. Every morning I now experience an erect penis (picturesquely referred to in the Chinese language text as a ‘single pillar extending into the sky’ - 一柱擎天 – Yi Zhu Qing Tian).
I must say that today I feel like I have been reborn. My mind is calm and clear and my body is relaxed, strong and full of vitality. In short, I am now a very happy and healthy person! At the start I told Master Zhao Ming Wang that I set my objective not at becoming an immortal, but simply achieving better health and a happier state of mind, but even so I now understand that if a Daoist practitioner dedicates their lives to self-cultivation, even if it is not their goal, their essential nature will strengthen, yang (阳) energy will strengthen and the lifespan will extend. Of course, things did not always go smoothly, as I had problems lighting the ‘wenwu’ fires as my eyes would not water and I could not produce the tears (which are a sign of progress). I remedied this by lighting a large incense stick (such as found in temples) and sat staring at it without blinking. The light, heat and smoke from the flame soon made my eyes stream with tears! Following this the ‘red ball’ (红球 – Hong Qiu) can be generated and discerned.
There is also the issue of longterm practice whereby the practitioner does not experience any progress. This can be due to poor instruction, mistaken practice or even trying too much in the wrong way. Everything must be perfectly balanced. The teacher must be genuine (as is the case with Master Zhao Ming Wang), the instruction must be correct (as that found within the Qianfeng School), and the Daoist community must be strong and virtuous (which is exactly what I have experienced within the Qianfeng School). We must build self-strength and an independent practice that supports the community. In other words, we must have both self-respect and respect for others. As a result, the Qianfeng School strengthens and enriches the Chinese nation and is a credit to the ancestral masters of the past (who suffered much to preserve these teachings for the benefit of the modern generations). Finally, for the year to come (2015) I wish you every happiness and fulfilment!
