Qi Permeates All Changing Phenomena

Life is often short and bitter, with individuals
experiencing the seven ordinary human emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, fear,
love, hate and desire. Each life is a
collection of passing phenomena where people meet, fall in love, work hard, and
then pass away.
In today’s world, people have very busy and hectic lifestyles. They work hard nearly all the time, and have very little time to relax, meditate, or otherwise look after their health. There are so many different circumstances associated with modern living conditions that the human mind and body is always under stress. When people get to 40 years of age, physical strength, visual acuity, psychological agility, stamina, and the ability to sleep properly all start to diminish. This is because the health of the body was not nourished in youth. For a man, for instance, common signs of health deterioration are fatty liver disease, kidney deficiency, and prostrate dysfunction. All of these problems are the product of neglect of the body over a long period of time.
According to the treatises that convey the Daoist law, the 8,860 divination symbols or ‘Gua’ (such as trigrams/hexagrams found in the Yijing, or ‘Change Classic’), and the 364 individual lines (also found in the Yijing), demonstrate clearly that the male body is pure yang at the age of 16 years old, and a female body is pure yin at the age of 8 years old. This is not a static law, but rather a cyclic occurrence. Some people ask why it is that those who are pure yin do not die, and why can’t people live to 80 or 100 years old? Well, people can live to 80 or 100 years old because the different trigrams/hexagrams are always changing, (that is each situation represented by the different ‘Gua’ is constantly changing so that when one Gua is exhausted another Gua takes its place and so on), qi energy is always existent in the living world and can be trained and refined regardless of external change.
This being the case, in our daily lives, what is most important? Obviously the most important things in life are the health of the mind and body, and the attainment of a long life. This requires the correct Daoist knowledge that enables the refinement and cultivation of essential nature (jing), vital force (qi), and spirit (shen). The good news is that the proper practice of authentic Daoist exercises can replenish the recuperative energies of the mind and body over time. These are exactly the exercises that I use myself. They are effective methods of Daoist self-cultivation and life extension.
