Chinese Philosophical Daoist Culture Expands Throughout the World

(Translated by Adrian Chan-Wyles PhD)
Paulo is a Brazilian by birth who settled in the USA when he was young. From the age of 16 years old, he has had a deep attraction to, and a profound appreciation of Eastern culture, with a particular emphasis upon the Chinese traditions of Confucianism and Daoism. In 2011, this 28 year old man came to visit me at the Qianfeng Hermitage in Beijing. We discussed Chinese history, philosophy and culture, as well as Daoist self-cultivation theory and method. Paulo exhibited throughout our meeting, an attitude of respect and admiration for Chinese civilisation and its many achievements. Paulo’s attitude of sincerity and respect touched me deeply as he explained how he had taken-up the study of Chinese medicine, Daoism and the martial art of Taijiquan, and how he views Chinese health and spirituality as being the product of an advanced and well developed science. This extraordinary exchange led me to recall the motivation of my great grandfather – Zhao Bichen (1860-1942) – who was always of the opinion that Qianfeng Prenatal Daoism could be relevant not only for all of China, but also for the rest of the world. With sincerity and respect, and a willingness to openly teach for free, all political, cultural and linguistic barriers can be positively surmounted for the benefit of all humanity. Paulo is a fine example of the many domestic and foreign students that train in the Qianfeng Prenatal School, and I hope that by relaying his example to you, we can all learn a lesson in diligence and determination and make the world a better place for everyone to live in.
